J. M. García

I am very grateful to Dr. Enrique Barragán, the doctor is a professional as well as an excellent person. I consulted in 4 different places and I choose Dr. Barragan for his kind and warm treatment. His explanation of the studies he conducted gave me more peace of mind to proceed with the surgery. On the other hand, the recovery period has been very fast following his recommendations.

why Lasik?

LASIK is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery to treat astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness) and myopia (nearsightedness).

The preoperative evaluation as well as the interpretation of the studies is a fundamental piece to achieve good  postoperative results.

During the preoperative evaluation, we conduct a interview (that is essential for us), a complete ophthalmological examination, as well as  3 computerized studies, the combination of this key elements will tell us  if you are a good candidate.

Dr. Barragan has one of the state of the art laser in Monterrey, he has more than 20 years of experience and 10,000 surgeries performed can assure you the best possible care we can provide.

Who can be a candidate for Lasik surgery?

  • Must be 18 years or older. Ideally over 21 years, which is when generally  your vision stopped changing.

  • You must not have changed your eyeglass prescription in the last year.

  • You must have a refractive error that can be treated with LASIK.

  • You must have healthy corneas and you must have good overall eye health.

It is not enough to meet the requirements, each case is particular and that is why Doctor Enrique Barragán performs 3 studies that help determine the candidacy, thus offering a higher success rate.

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for Lasik surgery?

Most people in their 20s, 30s or early 40s, with healthy eyes, adequate cornea thickness and that haven´t had any significant changes in their lens prescription during the past year, can be considered good candidates for this procedure.

We pay very close attention to all of these details, that is why due to our ethics, professionalism, experience and honesty in the candidate selection process, we have achieved more than 99% of success rate in the Lasik surgeries performed.

I want LASIK surgery, but  what if I wear contact lenses?

If you wear contact lenses, it is a good idea to stop wearing them before your baseline evaluation and switch to wearing your glasses full-time (1 weeks for soft lenses, 2 weeks if you wear hard ones). Contact lenses change the shape of your cornea for up to several weeks after you have stopped using them depending on the type of contact lenses you wear. Not leaving your contact lenses out long enough for your cornea to assume its natural shape before surgery can have negative consequences, such as inaccurate measurements and a poor surgical plan, resulting in poor vision after surgery.

Is there a risk for LASIK surgery if I’m pregnant?

Since hormones change significantly during pregnancy and breast feeding (these fluctuations alter the corneal shape), it is recommended to wait at least 6 months after these stages to have the evaluation and surgery performed.

What it´s the post LASIK surgical care

We recommend that from now on, you use sunglasses and lubricant eye drops. Also, you will have to avoid the following activities after the surgery:

  • No squeezing or rubbing your eyes (1 week)
  • Avoid getting water in your eyes while taking a shower (1 week)
  • No swimming (1 month)
  • Avoid closed areas with smoke (1 week)
  • No eye makeup: mascara, eye shadow, eye liner, etc (1 week)
