LASIK for Presbyopia SUPRACOR
What is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia is a condition where the eye exhibits a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects. Presbyopia affects most people from the age of 40 or older. The main symptom is a difficulty in reading fine print. You know you have presbyopia when you have difficulty reading a restaurant menu, finding someone‘s phone number in your cellphone or looking at price tags while shopping.
Recently, new techniques have been developed in order to correct this problem to prevent patients from wearing glasses. Among these techniques we find laser and intraocular lenses. One of the most innovative ones is the SUPRACOR System.
How does SUPRACOR work?
Based on the well known LASIK technique, the SUPRACOR procedure‘s proprietary corneal shape design, provides excellent far, intermediate and near vision.
This is a double-purpose new laser technique: correcting near-sightedness and far-sightedness. Thanks to the SUPRACOR technique you get the patient to a sight level enough to get rid of the glasses at any distance. This is done by creating a multifocal corneal ablation profile where the central zone is more curved in order to achieve a good near sight, and the peripheral zone is less curved in order to achieve a good far sight.
In Mexico, we are the first center to have access to this treatment; we were in charge of making the clinical trials for this treatment both to far-sighted and near-sighted patients, therefore, we are your best choice in orienting you to know if SUPRACOR is right for you.
